Tankless Gas & Electric Water Heaters

How tankless water heaters work

Tankless water heaters are water heaters that will heat water directly, without the use of a storage tank. When a hot water tap is turned on, cold water travels through your pipes into the unit. Depending on the type of your tankless water heater, whether it’s electric or gas, it’s either electric element or gas burner will heat the water and deliver a constant hot water supply to your shower or faucets. You won’t have to wait anymore for a storage tank to be filled up with enough hot water and your friends and family will always be able to take showers without waiting for hot water!

Tankless water heaters also are able to limit the output of the water flow rate. Typically, it provides hot water at a rate of 2-5 gallons (7.6-15.2 liters) per minute. Gas-fired tankless water heaters produce higher flow rates than electric ones.

Advantages of tankless water heaters

Saves energy –  depends on the daily use of hot water. For example, if a household uses around 40 gallons of hot water per day, a tankless water heater would be 25% – 35% more efficient than a conventional storage tank water heater. For homes that use more than 40 gallons of hot water per day, let’s say around 70 gallons, a tankless water heater would be  8% – 15% more efficient than a conventional storage tank water heater.

The initial payment for a tankless water heater will be greater that the one for a conventional storage tank water heater. However, a tankless water heater will last longer and create MORE savings in the long run through its energy efficiency. Tankless water heaters have a life expectancy of around 20 years, while a conventional storage tank ones last 10-15 years. Tankless water heaters also have easily replaceable parts that extend their life by many more years.
